Programmes during Summer 2020!!

ASD Summer Initiative was a programme comprising two parts: Software Lessons & Archi Projects/Competitions.

Architecture Software Lessons had a group of almost 20 commimtted members that would turn up weekly on Wednesday nights on Microsoft Teams to learn Revit/Rhino. As our members have varying levels of familiarity with Revit/Rhino, some of them have given feedback that it was a little difficult for them to follow the instructions as they have not been exposed to the software before. Thus, we have allowed them to raise questions through the chat which we would answer promptly before we move on to the next topic of discussion. Every lesson is recorded for the members to review while practicing.

To apply the skills learnt from the Software Lessons, we organised projects for members to participate in. We took briefs from architectural competitions for members to choose from and thenn grouped the members based on similar interests. As we have decided to make this a fun experience, we gave members the option to just work on the project on their own and and only registered them up for the competitions if they were up for the challenge. This really made it less daunting for the members, allowing LEARNING to be the focus of this programme! Approximately once every three weeks, teams are given the opportunity to present their work to a panel of seniors as well as their peers to gain exposure to the process of presenting one’s work which will be the norm when they begin pillar year, as well as to receive feedback for their work for further improvement. Participants have given feedback that they have indeed learnt a lot from this experience, mainly regarding the steps and processes of handling a project in architecture, as well as becoming more adept at using the various architectural software like Revit, Rhino and Photoshop.
