Art and Abstraction

14 Jul - 1 Sep 2021

The ultimate goals for the summer sessions spanning across 7 weeks were to provide STUDio members with the opportunity to explore art and abstraction, raise competency in 3D Modeling (Rhino) as well as to get experience in giving and receiving critiques, all of which are crucial skills to have during pillar years in ASD.

Participants first chose an artwork of any medium (visual, performative, experiential, etc) and abstract information, meaning, and intention, invoking a sense of curiosity and exploration. This is followed by the process of proposing a design for a folly based on the concept the participants have derived from the artwork. Participants then had to consider how the concept of the artwork can be shown in the spatial experience of the folly. The project will be siteless, giving participants the freedom to decide how one approaches the folly.

The second half of every session consists of Rhino3D lessons which focus on using different tools to generate forms and how to create presentation visuals. These lessons help equip participants with the skills needed to generate the design of the folly.
